In ââ¬Å"Wasâ⬠, we know about a story that fundamentally stems around a runaway slave. The two Uncles are exceptionally cliché. The other proprietor was likewise exceptionally cliché. Essentially, in this story, the white men are attempting to secure a slave that has run off to see his young lady. Notwithstanding, the story at that point advances into a stalemate between the white proprietors. They wager each other on discretionary issues until at long last, however the past wagers held some weight, the men go to a deck of cards to settle their debates. The amusing part of the entirety of this is they wind up wagering on the lives of the slaves. In this way, so as to demonstrate their prevalence over one another, they utilize their slaves as influence. This was one of the occasions I felt that Faulkner was attempting to represent the way that these individuals appeared to be pitifully lost in the old Southern manner. What was additionally extremely intriguing however is that they appeared to treat the slaves reasonably others consciously. As a matter of first importance, if a slave had run off in early occasions, they presumably would have beaten him or murdered him. Here however, it is a sort of game. Itââ¬â¢s a race to see who can get him first. Faulkner additionally tosses into the story the lady who is by all accounts in affection with one of the uncles. This as well, was smart in light of the fact that the new ââ¬Å"southern Belleâ⬠was additionally being conveyed to the peruser. The Uncles however, are unhitched males, maybe connoting the withering southern man of honor, who can't manage his past, and who will guide his classification of individuals to elimination. With everything taken into account, I enjoyed this story. I didnââ¬â¢t consider Faulkner to be a supremacist and I didnââ¬â¢t see any of his charact... ...Be that as it may, this doesnââ¬â¢t dissuade Faulkner from composing complex stories that mirror his artistic ability. A large portion of his characters can barely talk right English, but, his pieces are loaded up with words that even I experience difficulty recognizing importance from. Specifically, Riderââ¬â¢s character is hands on. Faulkner imparts this to us from multiple points of view, however experiences no difficulty tossing in phrases like ââ¬Å"the junctureless backloop of times trepanâ⬠. This happens all through these accounts. It resembles the characters are characteristic, they know nature, the have the right stuff to chase, they buckle down, and they love one another. In any case, these thoughts are differentiated by his composing style and unpredictability and truly mix pleasantly to make excellent bits of writing. It was only one thing that got my attention in perusing these pieces and I am exceptionally jealous of this aptitude he has. raquelfuller1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/11308924572469151991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284527973939254013.post-61636601823328733672020-08-22T12:44:00.001-07:002020-08-22T12:44:18.015-07:00Re Ingersoll -Rand Co. V. McClendon, Page 57 Essays - Business, LawRe: Ingersoll - Rand Co. v. McClendon, page 57 Date: 1-4-99 Realities: Perry McClendon, offended party, was a representative of Ingersoll-Rand Co., litigant, for a long time. Offended party felt he was terminated shy of his ten years of administration so litigant could stay away from annuity commitments. Offended party sued for illegitimate release. Litigant contends that offended party's custom-based law guarantee was appropriated by the ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act). Contentions: Offended party: Wrongful release Litigant: Terminated voluntarily and precedent-based law case was acquired by ERISA arrangements. ISSUE(S) An ERISA plan exists and the business had an annuity crushing intention in firing the work of offended party. HOLDING: EIRSAs express language and its structure and reason show a congressional expectation to pre-empt a state custom-based law guarantee that a representative was unlawfully released to forestall his accomplishment of advantages under an ERISA secured plan. Choice: For Defendant. Investigation: General Rule of Law: The effect of this instance of business today is perceptible in activities where you see organizations offering early retirement bundles to decrease workforce measure and furthermore keep away from unfair end suits. This case has held partnerships progressively accoutable for ending. Contextual analysis states if offended party would have sued for annuity benefits rather than unfair end the result would have been in support of him. Rule applied to realities: The Texas court conceded the organization outline judgment and the State Court of Appeals insisted, deciding that offended party's work was limited freely. The State Supreme Court turned around and remanded for preliminary, holding that open approach required acknowledgment of a special case to the business freely regulation. In this way, recuperation would be allowed in an unfair release activity if the offended party could demonstrate that the chief explanation behind his end was the business' longing to abstain from adding to or paying advantages under the worker's annuity subsidize. In recognizing government cases holding comparable cases pre-empted by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, the court contemplated that offended party was looking for future lost wages, recuperation for mental anguish, and reformatory harms as opposed to lost annuity benefits. In Kurt Vonnegutââ¬â¢s novel Player Piano, the author employs the Shah of Bratpuhr in such a manner. Instead of seeing a society that is better because of its reliance on machines, the Shah instead observes that the people of Ilium have become slaves to their machines instead. Instead of observing a society that worships a religious God and looks to him for inspiration and guidance, the Shah sees that Proteusââ¬â¢ world instead ridiculously worships and obeys the dictates of the giant computer brain EPICAC. Instead of admiring Paul Proteusââ¬â¢ society for granting worth based solely on intelligence, status, andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Having the distance of a visitor instead of one already immersed in the brainwashing in Ilium, the Shah is thus able to provide insight into the ridiculousness of a society that relies on a machine instead of humans for its knowledge and guidance. The Shah is also able to cut through the faà §ade presented in Ilium about the powers of the President, as a spiritual leader or otherwise, providing insight into who or what truly holds the power in Paul Proteusââ¬â¢ world. To underscore the significance of the Shahââ¬â¢s insights as an outsider to Ilium, Vonnegut even has the announcer at the ceremony say ââ¬ËPerhaps the Shah will give us the fresh impressions of a visitor from another part of the world, come from another way of lifeââ¬â¢ (120). And so the Shah does, in ever a dramatic way, when he turns his back on the President and drops to his knees to perform some sort of worship ritual at the foot of EPICAC, as he asks a riddle which in his culture will identify the arrival of an ââ¬Å"all-wise godâ⬠(122). When he gets no response from the machine, the Shah then likens it to ââ¬Å"Baku,â⬠or a false god. In doing so, the Shah once again u nderscores how ludicrous it is for the society of Ilium to essentially worship a machine. Not only do the people of Illium worship the machines, they also compete with the machines. It outlawed the smoking of opium in opium dens. This was a San Francisco ordinance. The basis on passing this law was that Chinese men had a way of luring white women to their dens and causing their "ruin", which was the association with Chinese men. Later, other Federal laws such as trafficking in opium was illegal for anyone of Chinese origin. The opium laws were directed at the smoking of opium. The law didn't effect importation of the drug because opium was a common medical drug. This law was specifically targeted at the Chinese, for the smoking of opium was a Chinese custom. Cocaine was outlawed for fears that black men would go on a sexual rampage and rape white women. In the early 1900's, newspapers referred to them as "Negro Cocaine Fiends" or "Cocainized Niggers". There is little evidence that this actually happened. The Harrison Act had started as a licensing law which required sellers to obtain a license if they were going to handle opiates or cocaine. The law contains a provision that nothing in the law would prohibit doctors from prescribing these drugs in the legitimate practice of medicine. The people who wrote the Harrison Act and Marijuana Tax Act in 1937, agreed that a prohibition on what people could put into their bodies was an unconstitutional infringement on personal liberties. Marijuana was outlawed in 1937. The reason for it being outlawed was that the plant had a violent effect on the degenerate races. The American Medical Association testified that they were opposed to the law. The law would never have passed without the endorsement from the AMA, but when the supporters of the law were asked about the AMA's view on the floor of congress, they had stated that the AMA was all for it. When the law had passed, the AMA protested, but the law was never repealed. It is difficult to determine how many people in the US use drugs. The Federal Government's Household Survey on Drug Abuse, is the most common set of statistics on the use of drugs. According to the latest surveys, conducted by the DEA, there are about 12.7 million people who have used an illegal drug in the past month, and about 30 - 40 million people who have used an illegal drug in the past year. Among the 12.7 people who have used an illegal drug in the past month, about 10 million are casual drug users and about 2.7 million are drug addicts. The figures produced by the Household Survey on Drug Abuse are obtained over the phone. Therefore, there was a problem reaching those without phones, those who didn't answer their phones, and those who answered the question honestly. Other surveys put the figures at least twice as high. Currently, there are about 1.5 million people in state and Federal prisons and jails throughout the US At least 24 states are under Federal court orders to relieve prison overcrowding. Prison population had been relatively stable from about 1926 to about 1970. From that point, Nixon's war against drugs, then the Reagan and Bush war against drugs, caused a dramatic increase in the number of prisoners. The estimated 30 - 40 million people who have used an illegal drug in the past year, would fill a prison holding the populations of California, Arizona and New Mexico altogether. The cost of holding a single one of these persons would be about $450,000. The cost for the arrest and the conviction is about $150,000. The cost for an additional bed would be anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000, depending upon the jurisdiction. It costs about $30,000 per year to house a prisoner, with an average sentence of five years, adding up to be $150,000. The estimated $450,000 (out of taxpayers money), can provide treatment or education for about 200 people. Out of the percentage of people in prison, 59.6% are in prison for a drug offenses. (John, 2003) Establishing a new product out of the blue seems to be not a very favorable option in the developed markets as no one would be attracted to the new hype. Rather people will take it as a ââ¬Ëjust another new product in the marketââ¬â¢ idea and continue with their lives. This cannot be allowed for a business, which is in its starting days, at all. Sooner or later, it will come back to the thought of merging itself with some strategic alliance for the betterment of its business, until the business itself is standing on its feet and that too with pride and without anyoneââ¬â¢s help. These strategic alliances not only help the big businesses to capitalize on the strengths of large, multinational companies but also draw huge sums of benefits, both in the form of money and customer loyalty. This is a challenge both for the new business as well as the alliance with which the company is thinking of forming a bond with, chiefly because their own business is partly dependent on the ne w one, which they will help to set their feet upon. A productââ¬â¢s equity depends on four such factors which might include its name and how much the people are aware of this very name. Another factor is the loyalty level of the consumers with regards to this product or the brand which is available in the market. Under the loyalty level are five types of groups present which include the non-customers who simply do not buy this product which is being sold under the companyââ¬â¢s name but purchase the one of the competitorsââ¬â¢. (Griffin, 2002) Other one is the group that houses the price switchers who are extremely sensitive to price. The passively loyal lot buys out of habit rather than any reason. The interaction of the three elements has shaped the online fashion-shopping environment. Analysing the interaction of three elements is essential because consumers are considering multi-channel retailing in fashion. Online fashion shopping environment offers all the design cues and multi-channels the consumers want. Search classification utilizes Sitemaps, search engines, Search by name, style or look to engage consumers online (Flavian, Gurrea and Orà ºs, 2009). Search classification is used for finding a product in any e-commerce business platform (Kim, Fiore and Lee, 2007). Online fashion environment is utilizing the consumerââ¬â¢s usability of the sites to increase sales. The journey of a consumer begins within they log in the online stores. Searching classification utilizes keywords related to fashion, and image links that can be accessed through top search engines (Childers et al., 2001). For example, ASOS has used the successful product tagging method of search classification to increase consumer usability and help to convert the visitations into successful sales (Jones and Silverstein, 2009). Product information details, zooming option for images, and 2D and 3D product viewing give rise to the ultimate interactive viewing. The online shopping environment in the fashion retail industry is using interactive technologies to create a seamless journey between the stores and consumers (Sullivan and Adcock, 2002). The rise of online and multichannel fashion retailing is focused on offering in-store consumer experience that is in touch with shopping patterns of the consumers. Smartphones, iPads, customized fashion shows and in-built touch screens have been introduced to give the customer a virtual shopping experience before actual purchasing (Tapscott, 2009). raquelfuller1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/11308924572469151991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284527973939254013.post-29969953190722335162020-01-29T07:38:00.001-08:002020-01-29T07:38:03.032-08:00Odysseus Characterization Paper Essay Example for Free Odysseus Characterization Paper Essay In The Odyssey, the protagonist is a leader named Odysseus who goes on a journey with his crew to get back home to Ithaka from Troy, after the trojan war. In the epic poem, The Odyssey, the poet Homer, suggests that Odysseus is a superior leader which is revealed by Odysseuss, bravery, intelligence, and perseverance. Odysseuss bravery sets himself apart from other leaders. Odysseus has to display an example to his crew by inspiring them with his fearlessness. Odysseus illustrates his grit when he forces his crew to carry on with going to the underworld: ââ¬Å"We must go/ to the cold homes of death and pale Persephone/ to hear Teiresias tell of time to come/ They felt so stricken, upon hearing this, / they sat down wailing loud, and tore their hair/But nothing came of giving way to grief/ Down to the shore the ship at last we went. â⬠Homer 10. 623-625 . Odysseus showcases his hardiness when his crew does not want to go to the Underworld, but Odysseus presses on, while knowing that lost and terrifying souls await him. Odysseusââ¬â¢s fortitude spreads throughout his crew, if he is scared, his followers also feel fear. Without courage the team can not get home to Ithaka. In order to achieve his goal, the Odysseus needs to speak with Teiresias. Also Odysseus displays his fearlessness when he is trapped in the Kyklopss cave: ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Now, by the gods, I drove my big hand spike/ deep in the embers, charring it again,/ and cheered my men along with battle talk/ to keep their courage up: no quitting now/â⬠(Homer 9. 06-409) . Odysseus exhibited superb pluck when executing his plan of blinding the Kyklops Had Odysseus not led his people by bravely heading the attack, his words would have meant nothing to the crew. For a leader to be ââ¬Å"braveâ⬠he does not only have to be able do the impossible by himself, but he must also influence the people around him to continue on by his side. To be an epic leader intelligence is necessary. One can be brave, but without wit his courage may result in a poor decision. Odysseus uses his intellect to strategically send only three members of his crew to explore the land of the lotuss: ââ¬Å"then I sent two picked men and a runner to learn what race of men that land sustainedâ⬠(Homer 9. 96-97). Odysseus knows that is the inhabitants are hostile he can lose his entire team, but this way he potentially risks only a fraction of his men. Decisions made by a leader without acuity are futile and may prove harmful to his constituents. Furthermore, Odysseus exemplifies his intelligence when instead of mindlessly slaughtering the suitors, he creates a plan to overcome the fact that he is outnumbered: ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢Put aside two broadswords and two spears/ for our own to use, two oxhide shields nearby/ when we go into action. Pallas Athena, and Zeus All Provident will see you through, bemusing our young friendsâ⬠(Homer 16. 352-358). Odysseus comes up with the plan to prepare weaponry for himself to ensure he had enough to destroy the suitors, while at the same time making sure the suitors do not acquire arms themselves. Although Odysseus wants to annihilate the suitors he keeps his motives in sight and manages to formulate the plan. The analytical ability to act in a difficult situation is essential for a good leader because the environment is ever changing and sometimes rapid decisions must be made. In the end Odysseuss scheme succeeds to provide arms for him and his accomplices, but the suitors are still able to gain weapons. Without perspicacity strength and bravery are nothing. What sets Odysseus apart from other Greek heroes is that he prefers to fight with his brain rather than with his brawn. Odysseuss reason also helps him make up for the fact that unlike the other Greek heroes, he does not have immortality. Lastly, Odysseuss perseverance made it possible for him to finally make it home to Ithaka, his persistence effects his crew which looks up to him for guidance. When Odysseus arrives home he describes what he had to endure to his wife Penelope: ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢My lady, / what ordeals have we not endured! Here, waiting/ you had your grief, while my return dragged out-/ my hard adventures, pitting myself against/ the godââ¬â¢s willâ⬠¦ But now our life resumes: weââ¬â¢ve come together to our longed-for-bedâ⬠ââ¬â¢ (Homer 23. 394-400). Both Odysseus and his wife have to cope with many challenges throughout Odysseuss 20 year absence. Even after his crew perished and he is left shipless, Odysseus does not give up. Likewise, when Odysseus has to sacrifice his men in a fight against Skylla, he grieves for his loss but he understands that he must push on : ââ¬Å"Now I let go with hands and feet, plunging/ straight into the foam beside the timbers, /pulled astride, /and rowed hard with my hands/ to pass by Skyllaâ⬠ââ¬â¢ (Homer 9. 564-568). Odysseus is forced overboard into the raging ocean, but he continues to hope. After losing his crew and his ship Odysseus never sets the sight of his goal to reach home. If Odysseus gives up when the gods throw everything they have at him, his quest is impossible. Instead of cowering from his fears, Odysseus attacks them head on, thus proving he will not surrender to challenges until his final destination is reached. Due to his bravery, his intelligence, and his perseverance, Odysseus is depicted as a phenomenal leader in the epic poem The Odyssey. Odysseuss courage in the Kyklopss cave makes it possible for him and his crew to escape the beast. Without Odysseuss acumen it would be impossible for him to surpass the many suitors that ravaged his home. Most importantly, Odysseus carries on when all odds are against him. Without his dedication Odysseus would not be able to bypass the formidable monsters that block his path back home. Many modern leaders can take Odysseuss example; for instance, modern day politicians need to endure when tackling challenges that at times may seem unbeatable. The only way to try to make the world a better place is to solve monumental problems that affect out everyday lives, such as unemployment and conservation of our environment. We, the human race as a whole, are Odysseus and we need to challenge the Polyphemus, which the modern problems of our world. raquelfuller1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/11308924572469151991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284527973939254013.post-77515787160289712582020-01-21T04:02:00.001-08:002020-01-21T04:02:03.063-08:00A Christmas Memory Vs. The Grass Harp :: essays research papers The two stories, ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memoryâ⬠and The Grass Harp are strikingly similar due to the fact that Truman Capote wrote both stories. The settings of both stories are very similar. In The Grass Harp the setting is very sullen: the season is fall, the days are always cloudy, and it is very slow moving in a small southern town. Similarly, ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memoryâ⬠has dismal and sluggish qualities of a southern, rural community in the dead of winter. The first lines of ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memory immediately establish the sad scene: ââ¬Å"Imagine a morning late in November. A coming of winter more than twenty years ago.â⬠Several elements of the story are parallel: the settings, the nature of the friendships, the rejection by peers, and the charactersââ¬â¢ love of nature. à à à à à The relationships between Colin and Dolly in The Grass Harp, and Buddy and Cousin in ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memoryâ⬠are close regardless of the differences in age. In ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memory,â⬠Buddy and Cousin have a large age split: Buddy is seven and Cousin is in her sixties. In The Grass Harp, Colin and Dolly have a similar age difference. But they are close friends, because they do many things together. They lived in the tree together, as well as dancing with each other. Likewise, Buddy and Cousin have a close relationship and do many things do together. Buddy and Cousin make fruitcakes, find a Christmas tree, and make presents for each other. Buddy describes his relationship with Cousin by stating, ââ¬Å"We are each otherââ¬â¢s best friends.â⬠Not only are the friendships in ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memoryâ⬠and The Grass Harp parallel, but the main characters lives are quite. à à à à à The main character of à à à à à each story is a young boy. In ââ¬Å"A Christmas Memory,â⬠Buddy is the main character. In The Grass Harp, the main character is Colin. He is close to fifteen years old. He has no parents and no friends of his own age. He experiences great separation and sadness in his life. In the same way, Buddy has no parents, and his only friend is Cousin, a woman in her mid-sixties. They are best friends, and Buddy frequently refers to her as ââ¬Å"my friend.â⬠ââ¬Å"My friend has a better haul,â⬠says Buddy, describing his Christmas presents in comparison to Cousinââ¬â¢s. When Cousin as Buddy if he is awake, he responds, ââ¬Å"It is my friend, calling from her room. raquelfuller1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/11308924572469151991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1284527973939254013.post-9120352511167546132020-01-13T00:25:00.001-08:002020-01-13T00:25:04.409-08:00Analyzing Psychological Disorders EssayA psychiatric or psychological disorder is a disorder of psychological function severe enough to warrant treatment by a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist. Schizophrenia, emotional disorders, Anxiety and Touretteââ¬â¢s syndrome are all classified as psychiatric disorders. The distinguishing line between neuropsychological disorders and psychiatric disorders is quite thin. Though the two types of disorders are a result of a dysfunctional brain, the malfunctions which create psychiatric disorders remain undefined. Psychiatric disorders are often linked to environmental factors as well as dysfunction of the brain. As psychological research advances, treatments and a better understanding of psychiatric disorders comes to bear. The term schizophrenia means a psychic break or ââ¬Å"splitting of psychic functionâ⬠. (Pinel, 2007). The NIH & National Library of Medicine web site defines schizophrenia as having five different categories: catatonic, disorganized, paranoid, residual, and undifferentiated. (NIH & National Library of Medicine, 2008). Each category of the disorder has a specific set of symptoms that is mostly unique to that category of the disorder, but schizophrenia in general creates a delusional picture of reality which disrupts the personââ¬â¢s behavior, logic and emotions. A good example of schizophrenia and the related dissociative disorders are the movie Sybil or the more recent film A Beautiful Mind, and another fine example is the television show United States of Tara. Both movies and the Showtime networkââ¬â¢s series depict the lives of a person suffering with schizophrenia or dissociative disorders. Neuroleptics and antipsychotic drugs are known to alleviate symptoms associated with schizophrenia. Clozapine is a type of neuroleptic that does not produce side effects like those associated with Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease. The medication is known to cause blood disorders. Neuroleptic medication is used to block the dopamine receptors though it takes time for the drug to lessen schizophrenic symptoms. Though neuroleptics help schizophrenics, only certain patients do benefit from the relief these drugs can offer. Schizophrenic patients suffering from hallucinations and incoherence react to the medication; however; schizophrenics suffering from cognitive defects are not affected. The NIH & National Library of Medicine web site mentioned atypical antipsychotics have proven to treat symptoms for schizophreniaà with few side effects and is the best option for those suffering with schizophrenia. (NIH & National Library of Medicine, 2008). A surgeon in the 1950ââ¬â¢s and early 1960ââ¬â¢s used a drug called chlorpromazine on patients to alleviate swelling prior to surgery. The doctor noticed that the medicine acted as a calming agent and recommended chlorpromazine to relax hard to control psychotic patients. Chlorpromazine did not assuage the symptoms of psychosis, but the medicine showed potential for easing some symptoms in schizophrenic patients. During the research process the side effects of chlorpromazine which are symptoms of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease were evident. Researchers concluded that people suffering from Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease die from a minute level of dopamine. Schizophrenics display a high-level of dopamine. Therefore Parkinsonââ¬â¢s and Schizophrenia seem to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. A breakthrough emerged in the dopamine theory with Carlsson and Lindqvist. The duo studied the Chlorpromazine in relation to schizophrenia and revised the dopamine theory of schizophrenia. Chlorpromazine was found to block dopamine receptors instead of the original theory of reducing dopamine levels. Therefore, the duo concluded through research that schizophrenia wasà not due to high-levels of dopamine, but with over activity at the dopamine receptors. (Pinel, 2007). Emotional disorders are another form of a psychiatric disorder. Emotional disorders include: bipolar disorder, depression, and mania. Depression is classified as a state of unbearable sadness. At some point in a personââ¬â¢s life one will encounter a period of depression due to a tragedy such as loss of a loved one, poor health, or a series of bad luck. However, most people will break through the grip of depression and return to a normal life. Those with depression have a hard time seeing anything in a positive light. Depression ruins relationships at work and in the home; the disease also takes over the person making it difficult to engage in a normal day-to-day routine. Mania is the opposite of depression and is linked to high energy and impulse. A person suffering from mania appears to be full of energy or ââ¬Å"hopped upâ⬠on energy drinks like Red-Bull and caffeine; they are filled with such enthusiasm, have boundless energy and talk fast. Though it sounds like an exceptionalà thing to be constantly in a good spirits there is a negative side to the disorder. Impulsiveness is a part of mania and many suffers act on impulse not thinking before they do anything. The end result is unfinished projects, bills that cannot be paid, and relationships ruined. A person who suffers from manic episodes and depression episodes is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. There are two theories created to explain the causes of emotional disorders. According to Pinel (2007), ââ¬Å"The monoamine theory of depression holds that depression is associated with under-activity at serotonergic and noradrenergic synapses. It is based on the fact that monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors, and selective norepinephrinereuptake inhibitors are all agonistsà of serotonin, norepinephrine, or both.â⬠The second theory is Diathesis-Stress model. The second theory focuses on genetic predispositions of a person as well as environmental factors that influence the disorder. This means that people who have stress early on will overreact to stressful situations later in life in turn causing depression. (Pinel, 2007). There are four types of medicine used to treat emotional disorders. Iproniazid is a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) initially used to treat tuberculosis but failed. On the contrary the patients did not have as many depressive thoughts about the illness. Iproniazid has severe effects when combined with tyramine rich foods. Imipamine is a tricyclic antidepressant which has proven to be more effective than MAOIââ¬â¢s. The next medication is Lithium which was shown to alleviate symptoms of mania. The discovery was made when a researcher tested guinea pigs and the results proved to calm them. Lithium is used as a mood stabilizer in bi-polar patients since it blocks the patient from transitioning between extreme highs and lows. The fourth medicine used more commonly in recent years is selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). The most common of the SSRIââ¬â¢s are Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil. The SSRIââ¬â¢s are reported to have few side effects and are able to treat multiple disorders. (Pinel, 2007). ââ¬Å"Anxiety is chronic fear that persists in the absence of any direct threat.â⬠(Pinel, 2007). Anxiety is accompanied by rapid heartbeat, heavy or difficulty breathing and high blood pressure. There are fiveà types of anxiety disorders including: general anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsiveness, panic, and post traumatic stress disorder. Theories involving anxiety disorders presume the amygdala has a role in anxiety disorders. The brainââ¬â¢s involvement in anxiety is cloudy at best since each patient tested shows different results. (Pinel, 2007). Benzodiazepines and serotonin agonists are the most effective medications used to combat anxiety. Valium and Librium are two of the most commonly prescribed medications, though they tend to make the patient drowsy. The medicine isà also known to be highly addictive and is recommended only for short-term usage. Buspirone is a serotonin agonist which relaxes the body and causes sleepiness. (Pinel, 2007). Touretteââ¬â¢s syndrome is known for involuntary movements or sounds known as tics. The Cedars-Sinai web site notes that the tics can vary from body movements and vocal tics. The tics can be a little as involuntary eye blinking or more noticeable yelling of obscene words or phrases. Little is known as to the cause of Touretteââ¬â¢s, however there is speculation that the limbic cortex, association cortex and thalamus are connected to the disorder. (Pinel, 2007). With the cause still a mystery there is no cure for Touretteââ¬â¢s, but though counseling, relaxation therapy and hypnosis healthcare professionals can help treat the disorder. (Cedars-Sinai. 2008). Psychiatric disorders vary in many ways. Schizophrenia affects the brain and causes hallucinations, emotional disorders affect a personââ¬â¢s mood in extreme ways, and anxiety causes fear and health issues, while Touretteââ¬â¢s causes tics ranging from subtle to severe. Over time psychological advances in research and treatment have been made allowing professionals in the field to effectively treat each disorder. References CEDARS-SINAI. (2008). Besides, environment education is one of the most effective way in combat with the existing water pollution problems. According to Karata A. and Karata E.(2015), environmental education is the process of recognizing values and clarifying concepts in developing ones attitudes to comprehend his or her interrelatedness between human beings and biophysical circumstances, that is, aim to developing the human in the world to be alert and pay attention to the environmental issues and which can work systematically to solve the existing problems and provide precautions to the predicted one by having knowledges, skills, attitudes, motivation and commitment. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "An Importance Of Environmental Education" essay for you Create order It is important to educate the people about the impacts if the water in earth is being polluted and there will be a serious issue when the rate of purification activities such as raining process is exceeded by the rate of pollution of the water. A research carried in Rasht City of Guilan Province by Noorhosseini, Allahyari, Damalas and Moghaddam (2017) showed that in overall, 62.7% of the residents had moderate, 20% had high, and 4% had very high environmental awareness which means that the available environmental education is insufficient for the world citizens. Thus, it is essential for the group participated in the environmental education to instil the civilian of the understanding about the water pollution to create a barrier for the clean water sources from being polluted in every country. The groups should contribute the relevant information in biology, chemistry, geology and hydrology for the individuals and groups to better analyse the pollution by critical thinking. For examples, the students in university is going to take the subjects pertinent with the environment conservation such as wastewater treatment and recycling methods, the farmers have to possess a good attitude in fertilizing biologically as excessive us e of chemical fertilizer may cause negative consequences (Karatas A. and Karatas E.,2015). Parents have to know about the jeopardies of excessive consumption and children will follow their parents lead to reduce the family consumption of water. Moreover, instructional slideshows, films, presentations and posters those emphasize the important of conversation of environment ought to be use. These meaningful educations are focusing to help people develop knowledge and ability to overcome the water pollution. In this sense, awareness and vigilance should be targeted for every people no matter old or young with environment education. At this point, local governments have the duty and responsible for the preservation of water pollution as they are the primarily organizations. All the other level of education organizations, NGOs, private and public institutions should work together to build a social neighbourhood with strong environment alertness to reduce the water pollution level. Precaution and conscious provide our future assurance and the perseverance of human being (Karatas A. and Karatas E.,2015). Beside from water pollution, critical solution can also be developed for other types of environment issues with environmental education as the environmental education purpose to bring the peoples attitudes towards the environment to a positive direction. So, this will rise p eoples alertness and environmental amicably people able to produce radical solution to overcome any kind of environmental problems. Here, environmental education is extremely important for water pollution as it helps people to apply good attitudes when dealing with the issues. Critical thinking, effective determination and decision-making skill can be enhanced by such educations. Hence, to reduce the water pollution level in Earth, environmental education will always be the primarily method as it can provides long-term solutions. In water, there are many different kinds of chemical substances are considered as pollutants including inorganic ions and complex organic molecules hence these pollutants can be categorised into various classes and each class of these pollutant has its own particular hazards (Sharma, Gulati, Puri,2014). In organic water pollutants, crude oil and various petroleum products may cause severe harmful effect to the aquatic life. There are also chlorinated solvents which are quite persistent and toxic that cannot be seen by naked eye and other organic solvents like ethanol, methyl ketone and acetone that are mostly produce by commercial industries every day. In addition, food processing by-product including fats and grease can pollute the water too. Large amount of chemical usage including pesticides, insecticides and herbicides in agricultural activities are typically an example of pollutants in water. Whereas the inorganic pollutants are metal and inorganic fertilizers. The metal and their compounds increase health hazards as the organometallic compounds poisoning the water and the health risk is higher. Some of the inorganic pollutants are not poisonous but are still a menace if they are used excessively such as nitrates and phosphates will cause the bloom of algae in surface water which decrease the oxygen level in the water and eventually the aquatic creatures are unable to live on. This phenomenon is termed as eutrophication. The traditional technologies for water treatment including coagulation-flocculation, filtration and disinfection which deal with the influent water source consist of just naturally existing biological and chemical substances. However, increasing of difficulty in treatment of drinking water in recent y ears is due to the consequences of urbanization and industrialization which cause the discharge of various kind of toxic chemicals into natural water source. The existence of disinfection-resistant pathogens is a threat in the water treatment since disinfection is the last line of protection in water treatment. Especially in urbanized nation, it is imperative to improve the technologies for the water treatment plants to hold the requirement for the elimination of complex chemical compound, preserve the drinking water resources from being attack by the pathogen agents. Green chemistry solutions provide the prevention of water pollution in a technically sound and cost-effective way in advance research and development and accomplishment of innovative water treatment technologies (Sharma, Gulati, Puri,2014). The green methodologies tend to process efficiency and consistency, better investment and operation cost savings and less rely on chemicals that results in a environment friendly water treatment. These improvements will give better quality of treated water and a high degree of persistency by recycling and reuse of the chemicals, waste minimization and less use of energy. Coagulation is one of the process in water treatment that destabilize and aggregate the smaller particles into larger com plex compounds. Water waste like colloids, heavy metal and ions are held by electrical charges can be destabilized and aggregated to be separated from the wastewater. Coagulation can be achieved by chemically and electrically. Electrocoagulation introduces an electrical current into an aqueous solution basically with an aluminium and iron anode. Aluminium is generally the best material in electrocoagulation as it provides trivalent cations and mostly usable in any types of wastewater treatment applications. According to a experiment carried out by Lech, Teresa, Boguslaw, and Marta (2012), electrocoagulation is able to seize more than 99% of various heavy metal cations and capable for microorganism removal from the water. Electrocoagulation provides many advantages such as no addition of coagulation chemicals, low cost in operation compared with traditional water treatment system, much less of sludge production and easy to maintain. Thus, it presents a environment friendly and effectively way for sustainable water reuse. Traditional coagulation involves the use of chemical coagulant like aluminium and iron salt may produce large volume of sludge with high bound water content which can be hard to be removed and separated. In addition, they are limited to eliminate turbidity and only a portion of natural organic matters (NOM). In this case, enhanced coagulation method is introduced in recent years to remove the disinfection by products that come from the natural organic matter and also eliminates inorganics, small particles and colour causing compounds. In water treatment plant, chemical coagulants is the main arm in removing organic substances and improving the effectiveness of this enhanced coagulation. Research design 2. Research approach 3. Research philosophy Researcher has decided to adopt positivism philosophy research methodology for the research study. The objective of the researcher to select this philosophy methodology is that it will provide the real facts for the research topic. In addition to that, deductive/empirical method will be selected to evaluate the basic research postulations based on the available theories. Descriptive research design will be adopted since it assumed to be the most accurate method to collect the data and information from the targeted sample (Hillier, 2006). Figure 1 Research Methodology Research Process The prime step in this regards is to understand the research topic and their respective aspects. In the next step, the aim is to find the possible outcomes and a detailed study for the research problem statement with the help of previous researches which would form literature review. The next and essential step is to decide the appropriate data collection techniques from relevant sources under the outlined research methodology. Collected data will be analysed using statistical techniques and then expressed in various graphs and figures in the MS excel (Lieberman et. al., 2011). Data Collection Methods and Analysis Data Collection The researcher has decided to use both the data collection method mentioned below. Quantitative data collection method Qualitative data collection method In this regards, a survey will be conducted with the help of quantitative data collection technique and a semi-structural interview session will be organised under qualitative data collection method (Hastie,Tibshirani Friedman, 2001). Source for Data Researcher will use primary data and secondary data to collect the various responses from the respective individuals. Primary data sources Conducting various surveys and interview session are the prime sources to collect the primary data which will include set of responses and recommendation resulting from questionnaires (set of questions). The questionnaire survey will be conducted with preferably be conducted face to face and if the same is not feasible, then the response would be solicited on e-mail. For the interview session, the researcher will conduct a one to one session with the selected individuals either face to face or over the telephone depending upon the viability (Hillier, 2006). Secondary data sources Requisite data will be gathered from the available articles, journals, websites, books, research papers. For this research study the researcher will be used the below mentioned tools and procedures (Liebermann et. al., 2011). Online/offline survey questionnaires Personal and telephonic interviews Various checklists, general meetings and observations MS excel or SPSS to analyse the data Analysis procedure It has been selected by the researcher that the sample size would be 25 which would include 20 employees and staff of Blackmores and 5 managerial level professionals. These sets of employees would provide the necessary information about the importance of branding at the company and how over time, it has had an impact on the sales of the firm. Also, the perception associated with Blackmores as a brand and its role in the buying process would also be understood. At the analysis phase of the research study, the researcher will minutely examine the collected data and information and then express the relevant outcome and figures in percentages, ratios, figures, tables using appropriate tools. Possible Outcomes The expected outcome of the research study is that the major aspect and factors related to the branding of the Blackmores and their effective impacts on sale would be better understood. These extensive research studies will help to understand the imperative elements of the branding. It will also provide identification about the branding status and effectiveness of the respective firm, various conception and expectation for the betterment of the brand and indirectly to the sale. A set of recommendation will also be obtained from the respective employees based on the study to build a long lasting branding image on customers mind. On the contrary however, these women were not allowed to contest for political office or take part in elections (Bauman, 1998). Despite this disadvantage however, women enjoyed alternative freedom economically and could even air their opinions on politics. It is difficult to curve out the general role of women in ancient Rome for the reason that their statuses were widely varied ; there were women of little influence like poor fish mongers to wealthy daughters of politicians who were more likely to leav a legacy during their time. The wealthy women had slaves do all their household chores including daily routines like washing their female masterââ¬â¢s hands and face. The slaves would also bathe their masters and spend hours fixing their nails, hair and eyes. The wealthy women on the other hand spent most of their time relaxing, commanding slaves and planning amusement parties for their husbands and themselves. In regular households, the women were taksed with bringing up the children and house keeping. It is also worth noting that since there was no means of family planning, the women bore many children and were pregnant most of their adult lives. Men worked in the fields until about noon and spent the afternoons relaxing with fellow men at entertainment spots. It was believed among the Romans that women be under a man as their guradian owing to their wea kness in physique. A womans guradian would thus be her father during her early life before she got married and later her husband in marriage. In the event that the father died before the woman was old enough to get married, then a relative would be assigned to be her guardian by her father in will or by a government offficial. In terms of education, girls and boys enjoyed the same treatment but only until the end of primary education. Upon completion of primary education, only daughters of aristocratic families went on with their schooling. The rest of the women would be trained in singing and dancing.Advertising Looking for essay on history? Let's see if we can help you! Bride price had to be paid by the groomââ¬â¢s family and its value was determined by the perceived social status of his family. The marriages were arranged much earlier than they would occur. The women were betro thed at a very early age and bred to an age where they would then be handed over to their husbands. The betrothed women were forced to live lives with a limited social circle because perceived flirting with any other man other than the ones they were betrothed to was deemed ill manners. The roman women gained a lot of freedom upon marriage and were treated like their husbands companions unlike the Greeks who oppressed their wives (Roman Society, 2004). The wives shared with their husbands in authority over their slaves and children. They also enjoyed the right to visitors, shopping and movement. Despite all this freedom enjoyed by the roman woman, there were a few unwritten laws that governed her behaviour both in public and private. A Roman woman was expected to sit upright while attending parties with her husband. In addition, she would only be allowed to take grape juice while her husband enjoyed wine and could recline his seat to relax. The rules on wine were later to be relaxed allowing the woman to join her husband in enjoying wine. This era made the roman women some of the least oppressed at that time in the world (Women in Roman Society, 2006). In this world of oppression particularly towards slaves, there were only a hand full of women who worked as doctors, hair dressers and nurses. It has been reported that there were some female gladiators who fought in an arena for the amusement of crowds. Female gladiators however did not have helmets on during these reported fights. From the information gathered above, it is very hard to draw a clear line that would define the role of a roman woman. It is in fact easier to define the different roles of different women with different social and family statuses. Perhaps it would be even easier to categorise the women in order to understand their roles better. There were the wealthy and powerful women who had power over slaves and entire households and did nothing but be served and plan parties with their friends. Secondly is the woman in the average household who enjoyed some freedom but still had to do all the house keeping and ensure that her house was in order. The last group to be observed is the class of slaves. Even in an empire where women enjoyed relative liberty, slaves continued to be oppressed and were forced to do hard jobs including petty tasks like washing their masterââ¬â¢s faces and bathing fellow women.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Women in Roman Society specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Reference List Bauman, Richard.1998. Historians in abundance have extensively studied the subject, providing their own conclusions as to who they believe is "to blame". Germany's role and the amount of blame that should be apportioned to it for the occurrence of the First World War is widely debated; leading the charge that Germany was responsible for tipping Europe into a global war was Fritz Fischer. Fischer's groundbreaking revelation argued "Germany has deliberately instigated World War I (WW1) in an attempt to become a world power." While Fischer's thesis initially appears very compelling given his analysis of source documents, further examination reveals that events leading up to WWI, and the role played by other states, paints a more nuanced picture of the complex reasons. I will argue that on a re-reading of key historical analysis of the causes of war, Austria-Hungary i s first among the equals in tipping the continent into a global conflict.[1:The Austro-Hungarian Empire, German Empire and pri...Moses, John "Fischer, Fritz" pages 386-387 from The Encyclopaedia of Historians and Historical Writing edited by Kelly Boyd, Volume 1, Chicago: Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers, 1999 page 38]In 1961, Fritz Fischer published his first novel, which generated extensive debates on the primary agent for war. His thesis compellingly argues Germany's for guilt for along three broad themes: imperialist drivers, social and political concerns, and military pressures. [1: Fritz Fischer's novel Griff nach der Weltmacht: Die Kriegzielpolitik des kaiserlichen Deutschland 1914-1918 was translated into English in 1967 under the title Germany's Aims in the First World War. Its publication revived public interest in the First World War and the topic of blame.]Weaknesses in Fischer's overall argument are evident when we look closely at each theme. A teacher learns a lot by observing the students and other teachers. To learn the best way, it is advisable for a teacher to take some classes as a silent observer among the students while another teacher is teaching. The first and the foremost thing I have learnt from other teachers is management. This includes controlling the studentsââ¬â¢ discipline and finishing the curriculum within the required duration. One thing that I have particularly learnt is never to bring my ego in while dealing with the students. 2. Students like Ernest (special needs) need that extra attention from the teacher sometimes in order to succeed. In some classrooms they have so many students that it is hard for the teacher to give that one on one attention that may help the student progress. So by Ms. Hodges implementing the current tactics into her curriculum it really will help Ernest especially the group work. Some kids feel more comfortable learning from other kids, because some kids may feel inferior working with the teacher. What do you think? Ans. There is no doubt in the fact that the age difference of a student with the person he/she is working with makes a lot of difference when it comes to understanding things and participating in activities. Age difference between a student and a teacher is much more than that among two or more students. Students generally take teachers for their parents, and would only be able to expose themselves in a restrained manner. Students are influenced by the seniority and maturity of the teachers. As a result, they are likely to consider their questions too immature to be asked, when the questions might not be immature at all. On the other hand, when students are working in groups with other students their age, they are psychologically relieved and have raquelfuller1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/11308924572469151991noreply@blogger.com0
